News along the Journey:

My Work has just begun.

With the information from my trip to Cleveland on the 15th of January, I have begun in earnest the job that I have ahead of me.

Namely I must rebuild my body strength so that the operation will be better tolerated by me. Also this will help shorten or enhance my recovery efforts as being an older patient they have said that my recovery will be slower. Well this makes sense to me so time to get cracking.

I have been able to acquire the services of a Physical Therapist who will visit my home to lead me through this project. Her first visits have been very fruitful and we are throwing everything out and beginning with the very basics. Each week we will add additional exercises and levels until we get to the point where I should be ready for that all important Operation.

In addition I am paying extra attention to my diet in order to add some body and muscle mass along with the Physical Exercises. The extra bulk will play the same role in my ability to recover from the Surgery. They have said that the average human will lose 10 to 15 lbs in the operation and so anything extra will be to my benefit.

A New Hope:

A new direction but with a plan.

On about February 13th, while in a state of working at home to build strength needed for that final okay and listing for Transplant through the Cleveland Clinic I was once again brought to my knees with one of the most devastating attacks on my health.

I was taken to Bryan Hospital where once again the staff and Dr's. nursed me back to some semblance of health. Through the efforts of the Nurses in the Temporary Care unit my lungs were cleared and my strength brought back to where I was able to workout details of a plan to get this vital part of my Journey realigned and back on track to a successful conclusion.

The details of these plans and some remarkable events have brought us in  a different direction than we were before. It is a bit of a slow down so I can perhaps go faster toward my goal.

The weekend is finally here.

I remember when that used to mean party time to some people.
Not me of course. Just some others who did that kind of thing.

This week it means dealing with coming off an unsettled week of fronts moving through which meant different reactions in the lungs.

It also means some serious workouts schedules to get things moving in a definite direction.

The fogs of Sunday turned into more.

Later on in the day, perhaps along with a weather change that was coming through, my situation changed.

The air became herder to come by and I spent the entire night seated at my PC. There is no attempting going to sleep at a time like this as the o2 simply does not reach the lungs.

Sunday is a day of rest? Not for me.

We have an overcast day right now and that also could be a term to describe my mood. It's not that I feel terrible, but like I am in a fog wandering around.

But I have workouts to continue and some daily living chores that I have been putting off.

Yesterday my neighbor Pat was over and helped...no not helped, but made a pot of Beef vegetable soup. Oh was that good.Of course now that I know how to do it I think I will be on my own. :-)

On with the important things.

Friday night and all is peaceful here at home.

I am s l o w l y feeling better and have been able to fine tune some living necessities to make my life easier and more stable. Getting these cheap standard heat controls to give me what I want temperature wise. My house is cooler than it used to be, but my breathing is much freer and consistent.

At Home again (day3)

Today being Wed I was able to a little more settled back at home.

After the visit from the Nurses yesterday I was able to calm down a bit.

You may not fully understand what I am getting at, but basically it is good to know that someone will be stopping in from time to time for checking vitals, etc. It's my hope that with them stopping plus the monitoring unit they are bringing I might head off getting something that will send me to the "Big House" for a while.

My Physical Therapist stopped today also and we have restarted my exercising. Granted we are back to the start again, but I feel that once I get through the funk I always have from the Antibiotics that I will be well on my way to getting back into shape.

What Hump day is NOT supposed to be !

Last Wednesday after I made that posting, I started to go downhill. Now, anyone that is close to me knows that my Medical situation can change in an hours time. This night was almost that case.

That evening and throughout the night my breathing became very difficult. I stayed up most of the night getting at best 30 to 45 mins rest early in the morning on Thursday

Tis the middle of the week.
My Therapist visited today and gave me a few more stretching exersises. These are all from a standing position and I can see how they will help build some of the muscles in my body. Or should I say condition the muscles better for me to build them up.

It has been a moderate day for the breathing. Tomorrow will be better.

I am slowly getting my burst of Prednisone tapered down. I think I will contact the boss and see if I should just continue getting rid of it over the next couple weeks. That stuff does its job, but I just don't like being on it unless I really have to.

Oh well, one more round of workouts to so yet tonight.

Bitter Cold outside, Warm and toasty inside

The last few days have shown much of the country to be under the influence of a bitter cold airmass from the North. Luckily I have been able to shield myself from most of this by staying indoors.

Exercising 2 times a day, though not strenuous, has helped keep my mind on the most inportant thing for me right now. Stay warm, don't cat a bug, and get my sorry butt built up with more strength.

The biggest problem is that I'm not doing as well on the weight so need to concentrate on that this week.

Now that there is a goal in sight...

I am continuing to do work on the site so that we will have as much information to share as is possible.

The basic layout of the site is done, however I am working on adding the full Gallery Program for it so that we will have visuals also. I have every plan to document the Journey to the highest degree possible. I was told we will have Photographs taken during the Operation, as well as what these next to dead Lungs look like. It is close to coming alive so look for it soon.

The visit to Cleveland is done.

Well, the day we spent in Cleveland was not wholly what I wanted, and yet better than I expected.

We got there and I did early Pulmonary Function Testing which did show more slippage. I also did an Arterial Blood gasexam which pinpointed the percentage of O2 in my blood stream.

Then iw was the dreaded 6 minute walk in which they get a measurement of sorts of the body's strength. I had problems with it the last visit so was hoping to do much better.
