Sometimes sleeping does not come easily
There are times with this affliction when what sometimes is considered a natural process of daily life, becomes almost impossible.
We all look forward to that part of the day when we lay down to rest for the night. (or day depending on your schedule) But there are times when conditions are just not quite right for you to "just drift off into sleep" as you normally would.
This comes for me mostly during the change of seasons when the Barometer seems to be more unsettled than Wall Street. Even on those nights when your mind is telling you that it is ready for some peace, your lungs and airways decide that it is time to do their own thing.
You close your eyes, drift off into those first stages of restful sleep but after a short time, you are awakened by a warm flush in your upper chest. There may even be the first signs of a panic attack in progress.
You have been breathing through your mouth instead of your nose, and everything from your chest to your lips is dryer that the hot sands of the Sahara Desert. A sip of water or two will take care of the mouth and lips, but getting moisture into the airways leading to your lungs is next to impossible.
The cure? Well not really a cure, but you get up and go sit at your computer, catch up on some information, or sit here and write a short article on what has been happening. If you are lucky when you get done the body has done whatever it needs to correct the situation enough for you to go lay back down and finally drift of to sleep.
If not? then you will find another task to keep you busy for whatever time it takes for you to get past this nights complication in your "Unconventional Life".
